Vice Chancellor - Prof D V R Murthy
Prof. D. V. R. Murthy served as a Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, prior to joining this University.
During his tenure at Andhra University, Prof. Murthy held several key academic and administrative positions. He served as Dean (Examinations) and earlier functioned as Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for three terms. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Studies in the same department. In addition, he served as In-charge Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Director of the Japan Information and Study Centre, and Director of Media Relations at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Prof. Murthy has rendered over 30 years of distinguished service at Andhra University. He began his professional career as a journalist, working with English-language dailies for a period of five years. His academic contributions include the publication of 18 books and 55 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has successfully guided 28 Ph.D. scholars in diverse areas such as political communication, development journalism, adolescents and media, family communication, and pragmatics.
He has also been associated with several universities as a member of curriculum design committees and has delivered invited lectures on media-related issues at various academic and professional organizations. Prof. Murthy was awarded the Charles Wallace Fellowship and visited the United Kingdom in 2002 to undertake post-doctoral research on British newspapers. He also visited Japan under the Sakura Science Plan Scholarship in 2017 and 2018.
Further, Prof. Murthy has undertaken international academic and professional visits to the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam on various scholarly and institutional assignments
