Prof D V R Murthy was a Professor in Journalism and Mass Communication, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam prior to joining in this University.

Prof D V R Murthy was Dean (Examinations), Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Earlier, Prof Murthy was head of the department of journalism and mass communication for three terms. He was Chairman, Board of studies in the same department. He was in-charge head of the department, foreign languages, and also Director, Japan Information and Study Centre, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. Also, he held the position of Director-media relations in AU. Prof Murthy has put in more than 30 years of service in Andhra University. Prof Murthy started his career as a journalist working in English dailies for five years. He published 18 books, and 55 research articles in peer reviewed national and international journals. He guided 28 Ph.Ds. in political communication, development journalism, adolescents and media, family communication and Pragmatics. He was also a member of many universities for designing course curriculum. He delivered lectures in various organizations on media issues. He visited UK on Charles Wallace fellowship for his post-doctoral work on the British newspapers in 2002. He visited Japan under Sakura Science Plan Scholarship in 2017 and 2018. He visited UK, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam on various assignments.
