History

The Prakasam District with headquarters Ongole, named after the late Chief Minister of Andhra State, Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu. It is one of the backward districts of Andhra Pradesh that is both in the sphere of economy and the field of higher education. It is with this background, Acharya Nagarjuna University Post-Graduation Centre, Ongole has been established in the year 1993, and it is upgraded to Andhra Kesari University in memory of late Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu. Andhra Pradesh Government has established this University with the effect from 11-01-2022 (Notification No. 36 Dated: 11.01.2022) by the Act No. 21 of 2021 (Notification No. 21 Dated: 20.12.2022) of the State Legislative of Andhra Pradesh as a State University and is empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under Section 22 of the UGC Act. 1956 and A.P. University Act at its own departments. The University College has offering 9 Post- Graduate Courses and one Under Graduation Programme viz., M.A. History, M.A. Economics, Master of Social Work (M.S.W.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), M.Com., M.B.A., M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Statistics, Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.), and Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.).

CHANCELLOR

His Excellency S. Abdul Nazeer, the 24th Governor of Andhra Pradesh, serves as the Chancellor of Andhra Kesari University. With a distinguished judicial career spanning 1983–January 2023, he served as a judge of the Karnataka High Court before being elevated to the Supreme Court of India in February 2017. He was part of landmark constitutional benches that adjudicated significant cases including the Triple Talaq case and the Ayodhya dispute. His appointment as Governor of Andhra Pradesh in February 2023 brings exceptional legal acumen and leadership to guide the university’s vision for academic excellence and institutional growth

Vice Chancellor

Prof. D. V. R. Murthy served as a Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, prior to joining this University.

During his tenure at Andhra University, Prof. Murthy held several key academic and administrative positions. He served as Dean (Examinations) and earlier functioned as Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for three terms. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Studies in the same department. In addition, he served as In-charge Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Director of the Japan Information and Study Centre, and Director of Media Relations at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Prof. Murthy has rendered over 30 years of distinguished service at Andhra University. He began his professional career as a journalist, working with English-language dailies for a period of five years. His academic contributions include the publication of 18 books and 55 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has successfully guided 28 Ph.D. scholars in diverse areas such as political communication, development journalism, adolescents and media, family communication, and pragmatics.

He has also been associated with several universities as a member of curriculum design committees and has delivered invited lectures on media-related issues at various academic and professional organizations. Prof. Murthy was awarded the Charles Wallace Fellowship and visited the United Kingdom in 2002 to undertake post-doctoral research on British newspapers. He also visited Japan under the Sakura Science Plan Scholarship in 2017 and 2018.

Further, Prof. Murthy has undertaken international academic and professional visits to the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam on various scholarly and institutional assignments.

Registrar

Dr. B. Haribabu of the Department of Chemistry, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, with more than 20 years of experience in teaching and research, was appointed as the Founder Registrar of Andhra Kesari University on 16 March 2023.

He completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam during 1996–1999, followed by an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from the same university during 1999–2001. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemistry by Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, in 2006.

He joined Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, as an Assistant Professor in 2006 and is presently serving as a Professor. During his tenure, he has served as Head of the Department of Chemistry and Nanotechnology, Chairman of the Board of Studies (BOS), and Director, Directorate of Admissions, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur.
